Golfing in Lisbon, Golf Holidays in Lisbon, Golf Breaks in Lisbon
Situated on the north bank of the Tagus Estuary, Lisbon has long been in the shadow of the Algarve, whose reputation for outstanding golf courses and resorts has rightly placed it high on the list of top European golfing destinations.
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal offers many established golf resorts such as Aroeira to the South of the city and Praia D’El Rey to the North. The beauty of this coastal city is that you can play top class courses like Oitavos, Quinta da Marinha and Praia D’El Rey, while tasting the Portuguese culture along the shoreline fishing villages and towns like Cascais and Estoril, while the city of Lisbon is a thriving hub of cultural activity.
Estoril
Miles of picturesque coastline and sophisticated nightlife including the largest Casino in Europe. The Estoril Coast is one of the most sought after resorts with seven courses designed by leading architects, complemented by a hotel and cultural offer that makes your stay even more enjoyable.
Cascais
Once a sleepy fishing village, now a lively holiday resort and the perfect place for a great night out. Downtown Cascais offers restaurants and bars in many cosy esplanades - praça Luís de Camões, at the heart of Cascais, is the perfect example. Some see downtown just as a starter, before heading somewhere else. Marina de Cascais (Docks), is a modern go out at night place. Many bars, disco bars and chic stores populate this summer nights crowded block.
Sesimbra
Further south on the Costa Azul is Sesimbra, is a tiny fishing village in a sheltered bay overlooked by a Moorish castle that also encloses a 12th century church and affords wonderful views from its ramparts. In the old town is a 17th century fort overlooking the sea, a good starting point for a scenic walk. In late afternoon the fishing boats return and there's a fish auction on the dockside. That same fresh fish can be sampled at one of the several restaurants along the shore.
Lisbon Centre
As you would expect from a major European capital, Lisbon offers a range of excellent shops and restaurants, where you can do some serious damage to your credit card, especially in 'Centro Commercial Colombo', the largest shopping mall in the Iberian Peninsula. For those who prefer to shop in local markets, there is a fascinating flea market at the Campo de Santa Clara.
The best way to discover Lisbon is to get lost in its narrow streets and up and down roads!
