Aberdeen's relative anonymity as a golf destination is one of the curious anomalies of the game. Several golfing outposts that are far more remote - from Dornoch to Donegal - receive acclaim and visitors in equally vast numbers, yet even though it is the equal of both of those mentioned, Scotland's third city remains relatively unnoticed.

The 'Granite City', as it's known, might be famed for its whisky distilleries, castles, granite and oil but when the golf is this good, overlooking Aberdeen is just plain wrong.

Newburgh on Ythan Golf Course

Its big two - Cruden Bay and Royal Aberdeen (6th oldest registered golf club in the world) - can stand toe-to-toe with any recognised duo in the world of golf, while a strong supporting cast of Fraserburgh, Newmachar, Duff House Royal and Peterhead make this an ideal city for any golfing break.

Jazz Band

Going Out
The large variety of pubs and clubs range from trendy theme bars to live music venues featuring everything from folk and jazz to indie, rock and blues.

Aberdeen is home to some of Scotland's world-renowned food and drink including Aberdeen Angus beef, whisky and has the largest white fish port in Europe. Choose from
restaurant or pub grub; oriental, Indian, Thai, fine dining, a regional delicacy, or fast food. - the choice is yours!

Bonaccord Shopping Centre

Union Streets famous 'Granite Mile' and six indoor malls will ensure you won't go away empty handed. If you prefer to buy quality fresh produce straight from the farm then visit Aberdeen's Farmers Market on the last weekend of every month. Independent shops, often family-run through the generations, are thriving in Aberdeenshire’s towns and villages and provide the best service for local and visiting customers.

Aberdeen Beach

Aberdeen’s beachfront is a family paradise where you can walk along two miles of soft sandy beach and experience a range of attractions for all the family, as well as a mix of restaurants and cafe's to suit all tastes.

Try the Beach Leisure Centre with its swimming pool, health suite and fitness studio.

Skene House

History & Heritage
Thre are just far too many fascinating places to mention, which capture the distinct history and heritage of Aberdeen:

The turreted Town House on Union Street and the castellated Citadel at the Castlegate. In Old Aberdeen discover the past by visiting the 500-year old University King's College, St. Machar's Cathedral and Seaton Park with walks leading to the Brig O’Balgownie.

Visit Aberdeen’s oldest private town house, the 16th-century Provost Skene's House (see picture to the left), the Maritime Museum and Fittie an old planned fishing village. Across the harbour Torry Battery an old sea front fort gives the best panoramic view across Aberdeen.

The Tolbooth Museum, now the home of Aberdeen’s Museum of Civic History, served as a prison. Here you can experience the atmosphere of times gone by.
