Opened for play in 1914, the Eden Course was designed by Harry S Colt, with assistance from Alister McKenzie. Their use of the natural features and partially buried field boundary dykes is so sensitive that there is no sense of contrivance.
The overall development plan for the Links required some redesign of the Eden Course in 1988. The architect Donald Steel, who also remodelled the Jubilee Course. The result is of course of interest and character which is slightly less testing and more forgiving than the three championship courses on the seaward side of the Links.
It was recently extended to 6195 yards and is the only course on the Links with a water feature. The Eden Tournament began in 1919 when legendary Silver Scot, Tommy Armour, finished second in the qualifying round with a score of 155. It is still a top British amateur golf event with 250 players competing for the Eden Trophy every August.
